When harvest season arrives, there’s a lot that needs to be done in a short amount of time. That sense of urgency can unfortunately lead to accidents on the job. At Magnum Power, we want you to stay safe this harvest season. That’s why we’ve created the following safety guide! Keep reading to learn more, and give us a call if you have any questions or you want to buy some new equipment. We are located in Lawson, Missouri and proudly serve Clay County and Kansas City!

Create a Maintenance Checklist

Maintaining your equipment is an easy and important way to stay safe this harvest season. When you stay up to date with general upkeep, your equipment is less likely to break down and cause problems. We suggest creating a checklist to follow throughout the season. This list should include what needs to be done to what machine and when it needs to be done. This is a great way to keep yourself organized and on top of maintenance!

Read Your Owner’s Manual

When it comes to safety, it’s always a good idea to pull out your owner’s manual. This harvest season, you should refresh yourself on your machines. You may have kept some equipment stored for the winter, so it’s important to make sure you are prepared to safely and properly operate the machine when it comes time to harvest.

Plan for Emergencies

A little planning can go a long way when it comes to safety. Having an emergency plan in place before harvest is critical. You probably won’t need it, but if you do, you’ll be grateful that you were proactive. After developing a plan, make sure to share it with the whole farm.

Train Employees

Anyone who will use your equipment for this season’s harvest should be trained on how to operate that machine. If someone knows how to operate a piece of equipment, they are less likely to put themselves in a dangerous situation. Train all of your employees that will be using equipment so you can ensure they keep themselves and those around them safe.

Don’t Push Yourself Too Hard

One last safety precaution you can take when it comes to harvest season is not pushing yourself. If you feel fatigued, stop working. When you’re tired, you’re more likely to take shortcuts which can put you and others at risk.

We hope these simple tips help you and your staff stay safe and have a successful harvest!
