Pressure Washer Safety Tips
Pressure washers are amazing machines for efficient cleaning, but they pack enough power to cause injury, too. We’re talking serious, emergency-room-grade injuries. Please don’t dismiss the power of a pressure washer because it’s “only water.” It can cut flesh and really tear you up. It’s absolutely critical to wear the correct safety gear and treat your pressure washer with respect.
Here are some pressure washer safety tips to get you started. In addition, please read your manual and pay particular attention to usage and safety instructions. Safety Precautions
- Always wear rugged long pants and closed-toe, slip-resistant shoes. Gloves and eye protection are also a good idea.
- Never direct the spray at yourself or anyone else, at any distance.
- Be aware that the spray could dislodge or throw objects that might strike people, cars, windows, etc. Don’t use the spray to move items.
- Don’t multitask. Release the trigger and put the sprayer down when you are doing something else such as moving the machine or other objects. You don’t want to accidentally turn it on.
Electric Pressure Washers
- Electric shock can occur if you don’t use your pressure washer properly.
- Always plug into a properly grounded receptacle, and test the GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) before using a pressure washer.
- Don’t let extension cord connections lie in standing water.
- Use an appropriately rated heavy-duty extension cord.
Gas Pressure Washers
- Don’t use any gasoline-powered engines in enclosed spaces due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Get a long hose and leave the machine outdoors if you need to wash indoors.
There’s no need to fear your STIHL® pressure washer, just respect it like any potentially destructive machine such as a power saw. Come check out our selection at Magnum Power in Lawson, Missouri. We’ll get you the right machine for your needs!
